Ningún dolor se iguala al acordarse
del tiempo venturoso, en desventura,
y el triste que ha tenido más holgura,
con más justa pasión puede quejarse.
¡O, con cuánta razón podrá llamarse
dichoso el que en desdichas nace y dura!
Y como si hay buen seso en aventura
al tiempo que se alcanza a de llorarse.
En este mundo, en fin, no hay firme estado,
ni podemos tener contentamiento,
porque este para el otro está guardado.
Y cierto que me viene al pensamiento
que Dios de tanto bien me ha derrocado
por poner a los otros escarmiento.
