Gran parte de prudencia es acordarse
que a un placer pesar le sigue luego,
y que en hechos de amor jugáis a juego
donde el perder más veces suele hallarse.
Jamás dejó un gran bien mucho gozarse
ni sentí sin trabajo que es sosiego,
reglas comunes son, yo no las niego,
mas gran pena da el mal si ha de gustarse.
¡O, cómo fui en un tiempo venturoso
y anduve en el placer a rienda suelta,
y sin temer pesar iba gozoso!
¡Cuán presto ha dado el bien en mal la vuelta,
cuán presto me ha mostrado que es dañoso
no temer el placer una revuelta!
