Si subiera mi pluma tanto el vuelo
que el deseo igualara que la inclina
a celebrar, carísimo Cetina,
cuanto bien sobre vos derrama el cielo.

Vierades, en honor del patrio suelo,
la clara fama que la rueda empina
del gran hijo de Tetis, como indina,
cubierta a vuestros pies de negro velo;

mas ya que el hado le negó esta palma
al tardo ingenio, porque tal supuesto
pide más alta, numerosa suma,

yo os celebro, Señor, dentro mi alma,
donde os veréis en aquel punto puesto
do no llegó el ingenio ni la pluma.
