Esta cueva, que veis toda vestida
de hiedra, que una vid cubre su puerta,
de levantados álamos cubierta,
con que la entrada al sol es defendida,

sepultura fue un tiempo aborrecida,
adonde estuvo mi esperanza muerta,
y ahora es templo de mi gloria cierta
y firme amparo de mi dulce vida.

Esté soberbia Paro con su mármol;
que mientras yo vez tal aquesta piedra,
no estimaré la del Hidaspes tanto.

Esto entallaba Dafnis en un árbol,
y Amarilis de flores y de hiedra
una guirnalda le tejía entretanto.
