Conoce apenas al amor por fama
Cloris, y ya en su pecho le parece
que se abrasa, que sirve y obedece,
no más que porque a Tirsi no difama;

no sabe que de amor la viva llama
jamás en un estado permanece;
que ella misma se apaga, si no crece,
los medios huye, los extremos ama.

Si Cloris sujetarse al amor quiere,
sujétese al amor sin condiciones,
déjese gobernar a su albedrío,

o llámese tirana, y persevere
en hacer de tormentos invenciones:
no injustamente usurpe el nombre pío.
