Descuidado del lauro que ennoblece,
en una choza pobre se aposenta,
con mesa no dorada se sustenta
y de pequeños bienes se enriquece.

Los miembros al descanso alegre ofrece,
y de solas sus redes tiene cuenta;
ni la bélica trompa la amedrenta,
ni el temor del suceso le entristece.

Ni le aflige el oráculo dudoso,
ni el envidiado cetro considera
si lo ha de arrebatar violenta Parca.

¡Oh, cien veces, Amiclas, más dichoso
que quien imaginó que obedeciera
el mar a su fortuna y a tu barca!
