Severamente al pensamiento pido
de todos sus discursos cuenta estrecha,
para ver si dio causa a la sospecha
por que con tal rigor tratado he sido.

Ninguna culpa hallársele he podido;
mas ¿de qué si inocencia me aprovecha?
que no quedando Filis satisfecha,
el castigado soy y el ofendido.

Aprueba y dobla el daño mi paciencia,
pues no puedo quejarme de su furia
por no culpar ni resistir su gusto.

Y así, vengo a saber por experiencia
que no hay dolor que iguale al de una injuria
hecha con nombre de castigo justo.
