Si acaso de la frente Galatea
el velo avaro, sin pensar, levanta,
vuelve a cubrirse con presteza tanta,
que más atemoriza que recrea.

Tal en la oscura noche hay quien desea
ver adonde sentar la incierta planta,
del rayo la violenta luz le espanta
y tiempo no le da para que vea.

Severa honestidad, que ha señalado
hasta la vista límites y pena,
si los excede por seguir su objeto;

pues ha los libres ojos sujetado,
no es mucho si las lenguas nos enfrena,
y tantos padecemos en secreto.
