Si quieres conservarte, Lauso, evita
ese ardor, con que en varias ocasiones
a cuerdos y filósofos te opones,
como pudiera el magno Estagirita;

ya tu apariencia, que al estudio imita,
cuando se atreve a decidir cuestiones
es ridícula a libres corazones,
cuyas nobles paciencias ejercita.

Yo, porque de celar tu honor me precio,
digo, para que escape de un agravio,
que consideres bien de aquí adelante

que el que no sale de su esfera es sabio,
el que ignora las cosas, ignorante,
y el que las sabe mal sabidas, necio.
