Si el alma sus afectos desordena,
justo es que tu desdén sienta, Licina;
pero si a venerarte los inclina,
¿por qué la infamas con la misma pena?

Dirás que no se sigue; que si truena
Júpiter, y con llama repentina
tal vez sus mismos templos arruina,
la adoración de su deidad condena.

Sí, pero es bien que mi interior respeto,
para que tus desdenes no la infamen,
la examines primero a tu albedrío.

O remíteme a mí el sutil examen
de si ardió o si espero; a riesgo mío,
yo me sabré avenir con mi secreto.
