¿Será posible que a mis manos muera
el león que me oprime interiormente,
y que en mí su despojo represente
la victoria segura y postrimera?

Del león a quien dio la muerte fiera
Alcides, se vistió la piel valiente,
y el mejor yelmo que aplicó a su frente
fue la cerviz y dientes de la fiera.

Y ¡qué! ¿no podré yo de este deseo,
nuevo Alcides, vengarme, siendo cierto
que creció por mi débil resistencia,

y, entrando en nueva guerra, andar cubierto
de su acuerdo feroz y de experiencia
el vencedor a un tiempo y el trofeo?
