Duque, suspende al tiempo la victoria,
contemplando en tu edad que el varón fuerte
de tiempo y de los hados la divierte
en el seno feliz de su memoria;

ni muere aquel valor que en viva historia
do con imperio leyes a la suerte;
antes ociosa, en paz la misma muerte
venera los confines de su gloria.

Vibra tus verdes palmas, no concedas
ocio ni olvido al movedor robusto,
con que la débil parte fortaleces;

añada espacios a su edad el justo,
y en su propio vigor viva dos veces,
aunque lo niegue las fatales ruedas.
