Lo que merece nombre de esperanza
nace de causa de esperar dudosa,
si se espera sin ella, y fe animosa,
si con seguridad es confianza.

Si a complacer en lo imposible alcanza,
puede llamarse adulación forzosa,
y casi posesión toda otra cosa
que quita el miedo a la desconfianza;

declina Amor en quien esperar puede,
que la enajenación y encogimiento
aun discurrir al esperar prohíbe,

Y en el gozoso asombro que pretende,
contemplando posee el pensamiento
todo el bien de que nace y de que vive.
