Si aspiras al laurel, muelle poeta,
la docta antigüedad tienes escrita;
la de Virgilio y la de Horacio imita;
que el juglar del vocablo es triste seta.

Mas ni el heroico honor de la trompeta,
ni la lírica voz tu mente incita;
y como es tu caudal de hilo de pita,
tus versecillos son de cadeneta.

No muestres el envés de los vocablos,
ni los recalques en los labios tiernos;
que el diablo es bellacón, mas no ignorante.

Y pues te ha de llevar a los infiernos
ese ejercicio, indigno de un pedante,
no fuera malo granjear los diablos.
