Sólo ofende el agüero a quien lo advierte;
véncelo, o no lo adviertas, Lauso mío;
que horrible (no fatal) su poderío
tanto excede al incauto como el fuerte;

y pues tu estimación podrá ofenderte,
refórmala con fuerza o con desvío;
que a la luz o al error del albedrío
se elige o se fabrica nuestra suerte;

cuya interpretación no la confía
al sordo caso aquella providencia
que a libertad y a imperio corresponde.

Alcemos pues con tiempo la licencia
al curioso temor; vamos por donde
nuestra animosa ceguedad nos guía.
