Ya, Opicio, a los acuerdos consulares
de esta grave república presides;
y si con tu equidad su imperio mides,
ni al griego ni al romano le compares;

mas tú, en tantas virtudes no vulgares,
émulo de Catón y de Arístides,
no salgas de ti mismo ni te olvides,
ingrato, del que fuiste en pobres lares.

Entiende que, aunque frises con la luna,
los que celan tu honor, rectos varones,
te quieren ver de la modestia amigo;

y en esta fe atalayan tus acciones,
porque a medida igual se habrán contigo,
como te hubieres tú con la fortuna.
