¡Oh Abete! si después que a los fenices
rindió tu patria el oro se sus venas,
miras como a tu honor nuestras cadenas
le rinden tantas bárbaras cervices;

por mostrarte a la mar, ¿propias raíces
trocar piensas por áncoras ajenas,
y al áfrico arbolar lienzos y antenas
entre votos dudosos o infelices?

Quitará la segur, que te importuna,
para mostrarte, apoyo a los trofeos,
sombra a las greyes, ocio a los pastores.

No injuries tus invictos Pirineos;
cedan sobre ti mismo tus honores
a la decrepitud, no a la fortuna.
