Estas son las reliquias saguntinas,
injuria y gloria al sucesor de Belo,
cuando en fábrica excelsa las vio el cielo
al orbe origen de la luz vecinas.

De hiedra presas yacen, y entre espinas,
con que sus riscos arma el yerto suelo,
y hoy libran la venganza y el consuelo
en la contemplación de sus ruinas.

Sagunto precia más verse llorada
de la posteridad que si a Cartago
con propicia fortuna leyes diera.

Oh tú, que sobrevives al estrago,
cándida fe, procura que yo muera,
si amor me tiene igual piedad guardada.
