Hoy, por piedad, de su hacedor le ofrecen
prendas de sentimiento sus hechuras;
llama el sol a la noche, y las oscuras
sombras aprisa en tiempo ajeno crecen.

De la vida asaltadas, se estremecen
atónitas las mudas sepulturas;
libran sus cuerpos a las almas puras,
y a los justos vivientes aparecen.

Las piedras se quebrantan, y a su ejemplo,
visten los astros voluntario luto;
rómpese el velo místico del templo.

Da cualquier obra al llanto algún tributo,
y ¡yo, siendo la causa, lo contemplo
con pecho alegre y con semblante enjuto!
