Pasar la vida sin sentir que pasa,
de gustos falta y de esperanzas llena,
volver atrás pisando seca arena,
sufrir un sol que como fuego abrasa;

beber de las cacimas agua baza,
comer mal pez a mediodía y cena,
oír por cualquier parte una cadena,
ver dar azotes sin piedad ni tasa;

verse uno rico y dulce encantamiento
y Señor, cuando apenas fue criado,
no tener de quien fue conocimiento;

ser mentiroso por razón de estado,
vivir en ambición siempre sediento,
morir de deudas y pesar cargado.
