Temí, señora, con razón mi daño,
cuando amor con razón me persuadía,
porque bien sospechaba que cubría
con falso rostro algún efecto extraño.

A tiempo el alma descubrió su engaño,
mas no se resistió de parte mía,
ni el áspero desdén con mano fría
despertó, como suele, al desengaño.

Entonces bien pudiera, por ventura;
agora no, que ocupa el otro extremo,
rendida la razón que estaba en medio

ya perdí la esperanza de la cura,
ya los consejos son los que más temo,
ya ni el mal es sufrible ni el remedio.
