A don Diego de Mendoza

Si en el ínclito Conde de Tendilla
humilla Marte la triunfante espada,
(a Mendoza del Sol la venerada
planta) el Sol mismo por Don Diego humilla.

Goza del uno la mejor cuchilla
que honró a Castilla y asombró a Granada,
del otro aquella pluma celebrada,
que envidia a Italia dio, gloria a Castila.

A los dos Roma tuvo para afrenta
de Césares, y Tulios (dos extremos)
que en su mayor grandeza España cuenta.

Libros del Conde a su valor tenemos,
en vos la gloria, que Don Diego aumenta
pues famoso otra vez por vos le vemos.
