Intenta de Tarquino el artificio
a tu pecho, Lucrecia, dar batalla,
ya amante llora, ya modesto calla,
ya ofrece toda el alma en sacrificio.

Y cuando piensa ya que más propicio
tu pecho a tanto imperio se avasalla,
el premio, como Sísifo, que halla
es empezar de nuevo el ejercicio.

Arde furioso, y la amorosa tema
crece en la resistencia de tu honra,
con tanta privación más obstinada.

¡Oh Providencia de Deidad suprema!
¡Tu honestidad motiva tu deshonra,
y tu deshonra te eterniza honrada!
